Meet the Composer

BIOGRAPHY

Nate has been creating and composing music from his early primary years.  His first instrument was the piano where he took lessons from ages 5 to 19 years old. He wrote his first song in 5th grade and has been fascinated with music composition ever since. After High School he served a two year mission for his church, in Jacksonville Florida, and then attended BYU-Idaho where he received a bachelors in Music Education.  While studying his undergrad he learned to play a variety of instruments falling in love with all of them, except the flute.

He taught middle school and high school choir, band and theater for 12 years. He taught at small rural schools and out of necessity had to arrange music to fit small bands with limited instrumentation.  He also began dabbling in recording where he recorded orchestral music with electronic instruments for musicals.

As head of the Theater and Music departments, he directed over 20 plays and musicals. He taught students how to mix live and recorded sound. In 2020, he began grad school where he studied Music Technology from Southern Utah University with an emphasis in studio recording. He finished his degree in December 2021.

Nate’s music is often programmatic in style. Talking about his music he said,

“I like my music to tell a story and it often includes a hint of humor. For instance, the song I composed called ‘Taking Out The Trash’ is about a man who forgets to take out the garbage.  He remembers too late that it’s garbage day. The song portrays the struggle for time as he races his garbage can to the road. It’s a familiar tragic story told in households all across the world, once a week.”
